SPIRITUAL PRACTICE AND PAGANISM WITHIN BDSM

What is it? A term which I refer to as Pagan Kink, this is the coming together of paganism a belief system with focus set on nature worship and BDSM a tool for ecstatic spiritual practice and a potentially healthy erotic activity as well as source of great personal and spiritual growth, deep transformation and joy.

When we practise these systems or ways together as one                                                     they form a lifestyle suited to those who wish to stay                                                             connected to the old ways while being able to explore and                                                   practice kink.

By looking deeper within the pagan belief system we can                                                     already see evidence and examples of BDSM/Pagan Kink                                                   being practiced in many earlier traditions going far back to                                                 early Sumerian practices, European traditions, African tribal                                               cultures and even some more neo traditions such as Wicca a                                               modern form of traditional Witchcraft.

Today we are only returning to our roots, diving deeper within and finding out who we truely really are. Here I have included a famous piece of writing written by the great modern Witch Doreen Valiente. A lady who edited materials that of Gerald Gardner founder of Gardnerian Wicca these materials he himself had collected, in particular rewriting passages taken from the work of the infamous magician Aleister Crowley. She eventually broke away from her mentor Gardner, but not before compiling the following best-known piece of contemporary Pagan writing today.

The Charge of the Goddess.

And ye shall be free from slavery; and as a sign that ye

are really free, ye shall be naked in your rites; and ye shall

dance, sing, feast, make music and love, all in my praise.

I, who am the beauty of the green earth, and the white

Moon among the stars, and the mystery of the waters, and

the heart’s desire, call unto thy soul.

Let my worship be within the heart that rejoiceth, for

behold all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals.

by Doreen Valiente

“All acts of love and pleasure are my rituals”: this is a

powerful statement.

The Charge presents the Goddess as “Mother of All Living,” a nurturing figure whose “Law is Love unto all Beings.” The holiness of free enjoyment of the body are amplified: “All acts of love and pleasure are my rituals,” says the Goddess.

Today many pagans seem to forget our roots lay deep within the foundations of BDSM. Upon understanding this theology leads us to a greater acceptance of alternative lifestyles and kink which is becoming more prominent in the pagan population at large today.

Whether for magical purposes or simply celebration, Pagan ritual also connects with BDSM through sensory experiences which stimulates the body with: not just sight and hearing, but also taste, touch, and smell. These experiences are all very common with those who practice BDSM and only highlights the connection we have with paganism once more.

Another example and connection which can be both found in paganism and BDSM is Goddess worship. A widespread movement very much how a sub may see his Domme  with no-centralised trend in neo paganism but has been known for male members of particular covens to to uphold this loyalty and provide themselves in service to their high priest which many do view as their Goddess. Practices vary widely, from coven to coven to the specific rituals and rites used.

We’re encompassing a range of theological variety similar to that in the broader neo pagan community which has already been practice and done before us by many who don’t understand their actually using elements of mild kink or bdsm. Upon understanding this our practice becomes more diverse, eclectic, and more dynamic in process this in turn creates a greater energy. An energy which can be direct to form and build ritual.

Weather these practices includes fire, wax, rope/bondage or elements such as the five-fold kiss practices which are already a part of Wicca or ritualistic practice our aim is to practice SSC. SSC is a BDSM term which stands for SAFE, SANE and CONSENSUAL.

The idea of SSC is that all responsible adults participating in any form of scene/ritual ensure that the encounters are physically, emotionally and psychologically safe and that they stay within the limits of what is reasonable/sane activity.

(More information on safety can be viewed in our safe section of the menu.)

                                                      PAGAN SEXUAL ETHICS

Many Wiccans see “The Charge of the Goddess” as                                                                supporting progressive sexual ethics. If “all acts of love                                                        and pleasure” are holy, they reason, then all erotic                                                                activities that adults engage in with enthusiastic                                                                    consent are permitted.

Here in this house we are free, formless, this is not a                                                             religion which we follow but a way in which we                                                                     practice as we step even closer to who we really are.
